Open Homes

Energy saving open home events are a great way to help people find out how to make their own homes warmer, greener and cheaper to run. Research from the energy Savings Trust shows that 83% of people who visit these type of events go on to make energy sving changes in their own homes.

Bath Green Homes have now organised three open homes events, the most recent of which in September 2014 which included 18 open homes and other places of energy interest, which recieved over 700 visits from more than 400 people. More than 80 volunteers were involved in the project who helped out by opening their homes, stewarding over the weekend, leafleting, and even making bunting! Check out the gallery for photos from the event, and check out the case studies page for details of the energy features of homes that have opened in the past.

If you are interested in sharing your story and opening your energy efficient home to the public for our next Open Homes Weekend (date tbc!) then please fill in the registration of interest form and we will be in contact when we start to organise it.

Over five hundred people from Bath and beyond turned out to visit 19 eco-homes open across the city on 13th & 14th April 2013 as part of Bath Green Homes 'Open Homes' Weekend.

Visits were made to houses ranging from Victorian terraces to sustainable new builds, with owners and residents sharing their stories of how they've made them warmer, greener and cheaper to run.

More than 60 volunteers were involved in stewarding and welcoming visitors, some of whom had travelled from as far as mid-Wales, Norfolk and Yorkshire. In total over 900 visits were made to homes during the weekend, substantially up from last year’s scheme.

Cathy Hough from Transition Bath said "We've been overwhelmed with the positive feedback to this event. Visitors really seem to have valued the chance to learn direct from the home owners, in a non-sales environment. The range and quality of the Open Homes this year has been really inspiring.”

Visitors included Don Foster MP who was impressed with the eco measures on display and the significant volunteer effort from the community.

"It was great fun!", says Home Opener Paul Stansall, from Frankley Buildings, Camden. "The visitors were keenly interested in the practical approaches I've taken in my Georgian home, including secondary glazing, low energy LED lights and sheep's wool insulation. It's great to have the chance to pass on our hard won experience to those who clearly want to take the next step."
